The location of the roof glazing is crucial for its maximum effectiveness. Today, we will present some tips that will help you choose the best place for this element of the roof system:
- Geographical orientation: The best place to place it is south or southeast, because this is when you get the most sunlight. However, if a polycarbonate skylight is to be used to provide artificial lighting at night, this orientation will not matter much.
- Roof treatment: It should be placed in a way that allows it to be sealed in the roof. Therefore, it is important to choose the right type of glazing and adapt it to the type of roofing.
- Distance from light source: The closer to the light source (e.g. the sun), the more light intensity reaches the interior of the room. Therefore, it is important that it is placed as close to the light source as possible.
- Room size: The size of the room to be illuminated with natural light also matters. The larger the room, the larger the glazed opening in the roof should be to provide the right amount of light.
- Window opening direction: If it is also to be used to ventilate the room, it is important that it is placed near a window or door to allow air to flow freely.

Roof glazing uses natural light
Modern roof glazing is designed to make the most of the natural sunlight that enters the building. This allows you to achieve room lighting in an environmentally friendly way while saving on electricity costs.
The light transmission ratio is one of the most important parameters determining the effectiveness of roof glazing. It determines how much percent of light falling on the glazing surface is allowed into the room. Good quality products can achieve very high values of this ratio, up to 90%.
