We are often approached by people who struggle with the problem of leaking, leaky windows in a flat roof. They incurred a large expense related to the investment in a room lighting system, and the result of the work turned out to be tragic. The dishonest contractor has collected payment for poorly performed installation work, and now he avoids responsibility. Can similar situations be prevented? The answer is yes.

Leaks can be a serious problem that can lead to undesirable effects in the building, such as leaks, dampness or structural damage. However, there are ways to prevent this problem.
First of all, it is important to choose the right solution that will be solidly made and effectively protected against leaks. Modern roof glazing is designed for maximum tightness, and its components are made of high-quality materials that ensure durability and resistance to damage.
Another important factor is proper installation. It is necessary to fix the elements of the structure accurately and carefully, including sealing all joints. In case of doubts related to the installation, it is worth using the services of specialists who have the appropriate experience and knowledge in this field.
Regular maintenance and cleaning of lighting components are also important in preventing leaks. Regularly remove dirt and rainfall residue, such as leaves, branches, and dust, to ensure that water flows slowly and prevents water from sticking to the surface of the device.
If a leak is found, it is necessary to take corrective action quickly to prevent further damage to the building. If the problem is serious, you should contact a company that specializes in roof repair, which will be able to solve the problem professionally and effectively.
Improper installation generates many problems
Making “mistakes in the art” in the field of editing is, unfortunately, the order of the day. Inexperienced contractors often use cost-effective solutions and skip important steps, without which the installation of a skylight should not take place. The structure must be made precisely, from selected materials, and then comprehensively secured. Taking shortcuts in this case is not a good idea. Only a tight light dome will be resistant to external factors. It should be made and installed so that it does not leak – both in light rain and during a violent storm with hail.
If thermal insulation and waterproofing are not done correctly, the structure will start to generate problems at the first better opportunity. The gaps left are conducive to the entry of cool air, not to mention water and moisture. Leaks are the result of design and assembly errors. They are most often associated with improper installation of the sealing flange. Sometimes the structure can be repaired, e.g. by replacing damaged elements with new ones. Sometimes, however, the problem is too advanced, and the best solution turns out to be replacing the glazing with another one, made in a professional factory and not in a garage.
Improperly made lighting products can generate many problems that will negatively affect the functionality and safety of the building. Below are some potential problems that can arise with incorrectly made lighting elements:
- Leaks – These can lead to leaks that will bring water into the building, causing structural damage, dampness, and mold growth.
- Heat leaks – if it has not been properly installed or sealed, it can lead to heat leaks from the building, which will increase heating costs.
- Mechanical damage – if incorrectly installed or made, it can suffer mechanical damage such as cracks, scratches or deformations, which will affect its durability and performance.
- Lack of sufficient light – an improperly designed light may not provide enough light to illuminate the interior of the building, which will affect the comfort of occupants.
- Lack of weather protection – if installed or made incorrectly, it may not provide adequate protection against weather conditions such as rain, snow or wind, which will affect its durability and functionality.
To avoid these problems, it is important that the product is made by specialists who have the appropriate experience and knowledge in this area. It is also worth choosing high-quality products that will ensure durability and effective protection against leaks and damage.

Investing in a solid, firmly fixed product brings many benefits, such as:
- Improving the quality of indoor living in a room by letting in natural light and improving ventilation.
- Save on electricity bills as natural light replaces artificial lighting.
- Improving the aesthetics of the building by adding a modern and elegant element.
- Increase the value of the property by improving the quality of life and improving the appearance of the building.
However, in order to enjoy the benefits, it is necessary to install it solidly and professionally. If not properly fastened, it can cause leaks, contamination, and even damage to the roof and building. Therefore, it is worth choosing a professional roofing installation company that has the appropriate experience and qualifications to perform such a job.
A roofing installation company should ensure professional and accurate installation, appropriate selection of materials and their high quality. Professional companies also offer a warranty for their services and products, which gives the customer a sense of security and certainty that the investment will be profitable and durable. It is also worth paying attention to the company’s certificates and references to be sure that we are choosing a proven and reliable contractor.

Inspections and construction law
In Poland, building regulations, including the Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure of 12 April 2002 on the technical conditions to be met by buildings and their location, do not contain specific requirements for inspections.
However, it is recommended that technical inspections of structural elements of buildings be carried out regularly, at least once every few years, in order to ensure their safe and effective operation.
It is also worth noting that in accordance with Article 28 of the Act of 7 July 1994. Building law, building owners and managers are obliged to ensure the safety of people in buildings and their surroundings, which also includes the proper maintenance and maintenance of structural elements such as polycarbonate domes.
Therefore, although building regulations do not impose specific requirements for rooflight inspections, it is recommended that technical inspections are carried out regularly and their results are documented in order to maintain the safety of building occupants.
