Types of roof exits
There are two main types of roof exits due to their use in the context of roof thermal insulation – warm and cold.
Warm – They have been made in such a way as to minimize heat loss and prevent the formation of thermal bridges. Warm outlets usually have a thermally insulating frame and a well-insulated cover that adheres tightly to the frame. Warm outlets are used in buildings with high thermal insulation, such as passive or low-energy buildings, where any leak or thermal bridge can negatively affect the energy efficiency of the entire building.
Cold entrances – They do not have special thermal insulation and allow cold air from outside to enter the rooms under the roof. Cold types are used in buildings where there is no need for tight thermal insulation, such as warehouses, production halls or farm buildings. In the case of cold exits to the roof, it is important to ensure that the roof is sufficiently ventilated to prevent condensation on the roof surface, which can lead to the formation of fungi and mould.
The two most popular types of roof exits due to the design are:
Rectangular or square – this is the most commonly used type of exit to a flat roof. It consists of a frame made of metal or plastic and a lid that closes the opening. The cover can be made of sheet metal or plastic and can have thermal insulation. Outputs of this type are used in residential and industrial buildings, warehouses or production halls.
Skylight type – In the form of a dome that allows access to the roof and at the same time is a source of natural light in the attic rooms. It consists of a frame made of metal or plastic and a dome-shaped cover. The lid can be made of plexiglass or tempered glass. These solutions are used primarily in residential buildings with a usable attic or as a decorative element of the roof.
Basic functions
