A CNC press brake is a machine used to mechanically form materials in their yield range, operating cold, and in certain situations also warm. The key technique used in these devices is the bending of materials, primarily sheet metal, using hydraulic cylinders. The bending process can be controlled manually, for example by using templates or preset stops, or automatically by using CNC technology.

It is important to emphasize that cold bending is based on the natural ductility of the material, while heat bending requires an increase in this ductility by thermal processes such as heating.

Press brakes are used in many areas of production, including:

  • various metal sheets, used, among others, for flashing on roofs,
  • enclosures and bases for various devices. We use them in skylights, roof hatches and smoke vents,
  • and many other products.

A press brake is a complex device whose operation is based on the cooperation of several important components. Together, these elements make it possible to achieve a precise and defined shape of the material to be bent:

  • At the heart of most press brakes is a hydraulic pump, which provides the kinetic energy necessary to deform the material.
  • The bending beams act as mediators, transmitting the force generated by the hydraulic cylinders directly to the workpiece. Their adjustment allows you to determine both the depth and length of the bend.
  • Advanced press brake models, both numerically controlled (CNC) and automatic, are equipped with feeding systems that improve the operator’s work, allowing faster or fully automated machining.
  • In the case of automatic presses, punches (mounted in the upper beam) and dies (located on the press table) are of key importance, as they ensure accurate and repeatable deformation of the material.
  • In CNC models, the bending process is computer-controlled, which allows for precise adjustment of subsequent stages of deformation to pre-programmed parameters. This makes it possible to significantly speed up production and expand the range of possible modifications to the processed material.
